A Fitting Match

Mothers Helping Mothers is more than simply an organization to donate used clothes to and it is more than a place that gives diapers to those in need.  It is a place for working families in need to turn to when they need help providing basic goods for their families. When things are generously donated, we often are unaware of how our used items touch the lives of others.  But on this day at MHM, the two worlds collided and MHM was able to match a donated item with a family in need very quickly.  The encounter goes like this...A mom arrived with a tiny baby, a 4 year old, and a toddler one morning. She was struggling to push her broken old stroller (made for one baby), while holding the hands of her small children. She had walked to MHM. Right after she arrived, a man walked in with a beautiful, almost new, double stroller. We spotted a match made in heaven and gave the stroller directly to the mother. Not only did this mom cry, the dad who brought the stroller in to donate cried. He had some other little toys he gave her children as well; it felt like Christmas morning. She also found clothing and diapers she really needed. When the father who donated the stroller was leaving, he said, "I can't believe I almost didn't bother driving up here to donate this stroller. I really get how this works now, and I feel great about being a part of it".

Growing

On a recent trip to Mothers Helping Mothers I found this little cutie!  I talked with her mother who said that MHM is such a HUGE help since her daughter is growing out of EVERYTHING!
I love my zebra pants, but I am growing out of them!

I am being so good while mommy shops!
Providing clothes is only one way that MHM helps out those in need.  MHM provides everything from diapers and formula to strollers and cribs.  For more information about the organization, please visit http://www.mhmsarasota.com/.

For today, I thought that it was important for you to see the faces of those that we serve at Mothers Helping Mothers.  The faces are those young and old who inspire us to keep the doors open and and our mission alive.  Take a look at the beautiful faces below and if you would like to help, please go to our website at http://www.mhmsarasota.com/

What a Great Place!

This is Faye and her new grandchild!  Faye LOVES what Mothers Helping Mothers has done for her daughter.  "This is the first time that we have been here and it is GREAT!" she said.  "My daughter is getting everything that she needs for the new baby - even a stroller!  I couldn't be more pleased!"

Faye and her daughter are only two of the thousands that are served by Mothers Helping Mothers each year.  To help ensure that Mothers Helping Mothers is able to continue to help families in need, make your donation today!  For more information, please go to http://www.mhmsaraota.com/

It's Just Like the Catepillar...

When designing the blog, there are many choices to choose from, but when I saw the butterflies it reminded me of Mothers Helping Mothers.  It might be a little cheesy, but do you remember the book The Very Hungary Catepillar from your childhood?  You know, the catepillar that hatches from an egg and eats A TON of food before going into his cacoon?  When the catepillar emerges from his cacoon after a couple of days he has transformed into a beautiful butterfly.  In a similar manner, MHM sees mothers and families when they are in the catepillar stage and provides them with the tools that they need (food) to make it on their own.  With a little encouragement and the right materials in their possession, they are then able to emerge into butterflies.  All butterflies look different just as all people are different.  Mothers Helping Mothers does the very best that it can with limited resources to make a substantial impact on the community.  I am sure that there are many mothers out there who credit MHM with giving them the encouragement and tools needed to transform into a beautiful butterfly.

So Much to Say

When trying to figure out how to truly tell our story of the lives that we touch everyday there was one solution...a blog!  Yes we have a website (http://www.mhmsarasota.com/  if you were wondering) and are on Facebook (isn't everyone?), but the stories that we hear cannot be shared accurately by those mediums. We hear so many stories about the need in this community - stories that will make your eyes water and your heart ache.  Stories that make you stop and think - Who is helping these people?  What can I do?  Well, often times Mothers Helping Mothers is helping the working poor get back on their feet after a fire or providing a crib for a new baby whose parents have no where else to turn.  These stories are rarely heard and the smiling faces are not often seen by those outside the walls of MHM.  Times are now changing and it is appropriate to let everyone know just how big of a difference MHM is making in this community.  So please, put this blog as a favorite on your computer and visit us often.  The stories will touch your heart and the faces will make you smile.  Just know that if you have made your monetary donation to Mothers Helping Mothers we thank you, and the faces that you will see thank you as well.  If you have not made your donation yet, just think of the difference that you could make with your financial contribution.  You can simply mail it to: P.O. Box 342 Sarasota, FL 34230-3042.  Thank you for helping us to make a difference!
